Mount Wellington, officially dual-named kunanyi / Mount Wellington, is a 1,271 meter mountain immediately west of the city of Hobart in Tasmania and forms the skyline above the city. It is the principal high point overlooking Hobart and the River Derwent.
The summit and upper slopes offer a network of sealed roads and walking tracks, short 10- to 60-minute walks to lookout points, and panoramic views across Hobart and the surrounding landscape. Rock outcrops and dolerite formations are visible on the upper flanks and the summit area is a popular destination for day trips and photography.
The mountain has a long recorded history in European and Palawa narratives and carries the dual name kunanyi / Mount Wellington. Over time roads and recreational facilities were added to provide public access to the summit and to formalize walking and cycling routes.
The mountain sits immediately west of Hobart in southern Tasmania; the summit is reached by a road that rises from the city suburbs. The slopes are a mix of rocky outcrops, forested gullies and managed recreation areas.
