Mount Limbara
Mountain Granite massif in Sardinia with panoramic viewpoints
This granite massif in northern Sardinia overlooks Gallura and Tempio Pausania; visitors hike forest tracks, pass communications installations, and explore shepherd trails and nearby nuraghi.
Mount Limbara is a granite massif in northern Sardinia, within the historical region of Gallura. The range rises to around 1,360 metres and is a local high point with extensive rock outcrops and Mediterranean vegetation.
Trails and forest roads cross the massif and lead to summits and viewpoints that offer wide views over northeastern Sardinia and the Tyrrhenian Sea. The area includes telecommunications and meteorological facilities at higher elevations and has been used for both forestry and recreation.
The landscape formed by uplifted granite has long been known locally and used for grazing and timber; infrastructure for communications and tourism expanded in the 20th century. Some former military and radar facilities occupy higher plateaus, later repurposed or decommissioned.
Mount Limbara sits inland from the northeastern Sardinian coast, north of towns such as Tempio Pausania and not far from Olbia and the Costa Smeralda region. It is accessible by regional roads and forms a prominent local landmark.
- Elevation and views: The massif reaches roughly 1,360 metres and dominates the Gallura landscape of northern Sardinia. From its ridges you can see the surrounding plains and, on clear days, offshore islands.
