Visitors use marked trails and a cable car from the town of Marciana to reach near the summit, where viewpoints offer panoramas over Elba and, on clear days, other islands of the Tuscan Archipelago and distant Corsica. The mountain is of volcanic origin and has long been used for grazing and later recreational hiking. Today it is managed for conservation and outdoor recreation, with maintained trails and visitor facilities near access points.

Tips for Visiting Mount Capanne #
- Take the Marciana cable car up Mount Capanne to save the long ascent and still have time to walk the short summit ridge - the cable car drops you close enough to the high paths so you can reach the true summit on foot.
- Plan your visit for early morning or late afternoon on clear days: visibility is best then and you're most likely to see Corsica and the Tuscan coast from the summit panoramas.
- Many visitors miss the short ridge walk from the upper station to the peak; set aside 30-60 minutes after the cable car to reach the highest viewpoints rather than treating the ride as a roundtrip sightseeing stop.
