Mount Adamello
Mountain Glaciated Alpine massif in Lombardy popular with climbers
Part of Lombardy’s Adamello-Presanella group, Mount Adamello features extensive glaciers, long alpine routes and summer ski-tour options that draw experienced mountaineers.
Mount Adamello is a 3,539-meter mountain in the Adamello range of the Rhaetian Alps in northern Italy, located at 46.1554° N, 10.4966° E. The mountain is a principal peak of the Adamello group and is noted for extensive glaciation on its slopes.
Alpine routes and glacier travel are the main on-site attractions for mountaineers and ski tourers, with the summit at 3,539 meters. Glaciers on and around the massif are among the more substantial ice bodies in the Italian Alps.
The mountain is a product of the Alpine orogeny; it has been used for mountaineering and alpine activities for more than a century and saw military activity during World War I on high Alpine fronts. Over time the glaciers have fluctuated in size.
Mount Adamello straddles northern Italy in Lombardy (and near the border with Trentino); it lies within the broader Adamello massif in the Rhaetian Alps, south of local valley towns such as Ponte di Legno.
