Morgenberghorn is a mountain in the Bernese Alps of Switzerland with a summit at roughly 2,249 metres above sea level. It forms part of the range that rises above the northern shore of Lake Brienz in the Canton of Bern.

The mountain is commonly visited by hikers and ski tourers; marked routes lead to the summit and the final sections involve rocky terrain and exposed ridgelines. The summit affords wide panoramas of Lake Brienz, the Brienzer Rothorn group and the central Bernese Alps.

Morgenberghorn is part of the alpine ridge that separates the Lake Brienz basin from higher interior valleys and is accessed from trailheads near the lakeshore villages, particularly Brienz.

The mountain overlooks Lake Brienz in the canton of Bern, with common access points from the village of Brienz and neighbouring valley roads in the Bernese Oberland.

  • Elevation and ascent: Summit elevation is about 2,249 metres, and the standard ascent is a day hike on well-marked trails from valleys around Lake Brienz.
  • Views: Clear weather yields extensive views across Lake Brienz to the Brienzer Rothorn massif and the central Bernese Oberland peaks.

Tips for Visiting Morgenberghorn #

  • Plan for sunrise or late afternoon for the best alpine light and to reduce the chance of afternoon thunderstorms common in the Bernese Oberland.
  • Start your hike from Beatenberg village - that approach is the most direct on established trails and avoids longer valley transfers from Lake Thun side towns.
  • Carry time to reach the summit ridge viewpoint: it provides an uninterrupted panorama over Lake Thun and the main Bernese peaks, a scene many visitors miss by turning back early.
