Morgantina is an archaeological site in central-eastern Sicily that preserves remains of a Greek and Hellenistic town. The site contains streets, domestic quarters, public buildings and evidence of long occupation from the Archaic through the Hellenistic periods.
Excavations have revealed urban layout, house remains, a theatre and civic structures, along with finds that illustrate trade and daily life in antiquity. The site is visited for its standing remains and for finds displayed in regional museums.
Morgantina was inhabited and developed over many centuries, changing through Greek colonisation, Hellenistic reorganisation and later Roman influence; archaeological work in the 20th century exposed much of the urban plan.
Located on a hill near the modern comune of Aidone in the province of Enna, the site overlooks surrounding agricultural landscapes of central Sicily.
