The Monument to the Independence of Brazil is a large commemorative monument in the Parque da Independência in São Paulo, marking the site associated with Dom Pedro I’s 1822 declaration of independence. The completed monument was unveiled in 1922 as part of centenary commemorations.
Built to mark the 100th anniversary of Brazil’s independence, the monument was inaugurated in 1922 and has been part of the Parque da Independência ensemble since then. The location commemorates the historical association of the Ipiranga area with the independence proclamation.
Situated in the Ipiranga district of southeast São Paulo, the monument stands adjacent to the Museu Paulista within Parque da Independência, a short drive from central São Paulo.
