Monte Maggiorasca
Mountain Highest Ligurian Apennine summit on regional border
In the Ligurian Apennines, Monte Maggiorasca draws hikers and mountain-bikers along ridgeline trails and to viewpoints that, on clear days, reach the Ligurian Sea; small refuges and seasonal wildflowers suit day trips from nearby towns.
Monte Maggiorasca is a 1,799 m mountain in the Ligurian Apennines, sitting near the regional boundary between Liguria and Emilia-Romagna. It forms part of the Apennine ridge that separates coastal and inland basins in northern Italy.
Marked trails and ridge walks lead to the summit where hikers find wide views over the surrounding Apennine valleys and, on clear days, to the Po plain. The summit area is a common objective for day hikes from nearby towns and mountain refuges.
The mountain is a product of Apennine orogeny and long-term erosion that created the present ridge and valleys. It has been used traditionally for seasonal grazing and local forestry.
Monte Maggiorasca sits inland from the Ligurian coast, on the spine of the northern Apennines; the nearest regional towns are within a drive of tens of kilometres along mountain roads.
- Elevation and location: Summit elevation approximately 1,799 m, located on the Apennine ridge between the regions of Liguria and Emilia-Romagna.
