Monte Brè
Mountain Scenic mountain offering views over Lugano and lake
Monte Brè overlooks Lugano and Lake Lugano; visitors ride the funicular, hike ridge trails and dine at small summit restaurants while taking panoramic views of the lake and surrounding Prealps.
Monte Brè is a steep, forested hill immediately east of the city of Lugano in Ticino, Switzerland, reaching about 925 metres above sea level. It is a well-established local excursion destination with a mix of village streets, viewpoints and mountain trails.
The mountain is prized for panoramic views across Lake Lugano and the surrounding Prealps; the summit viewpoint is easily reached and is a principal draw for day-trippers. A historic funicular connects Lugano’s Cassarate neighbourhood with the slopes and near the summit, providing convenient access for walkers and sightseers.
The small village of Brè on the mountain’s slopes offers narrow streets, local eateries and trailheads for short hikes; many visitors combine a ride on the funicular with a walk and views over the lake.
