Monte Bondone is a mountain massif in Trentino, northern Italy, whose main summit (Palon) rises to about 2,180 m. It dominates the landscape west of the city of Trento and serves as a local Alpine recreation area.
Alpine meadows, marked trails and a developed winter-sports infrastructure attract hikers in summer and skiers in winter; routes of varying difficulty climb to the main ridges and summits. The summit area offers broad views over the Adige valley and, when visibility is good, distant Alpine peaks.

How to Get to Monte Bondone #
From Trento city center take SP45/SP37 northwest toward Vason; the Vason cable car station (Funivia Monte Bondone) is about a 20-30 minute drive (10-12 km) up the mountain. In winter regional buses (APT Trento) run from Trento station to the Monte Bondone area - check seasonal timetables. For walkers, several marked trails climb from villages like Sardagna and Vason; allow 2-4 hours depending on route.
Tips for Visiting Monte Bondone #
- Take the SP37 road from Trento to reach Vason cable car - the upper station saves a steep climb and opens up immediate views of the Adige valley.
- Visit early morning for cloud inversions (often seen Sept-Nov) when the valley sits below a sea of mist and peaks poke out like islands.
