Monte Boglia is a mountain in the canton of Ticino in southern Switzerland, located just north of the city of Lugano. It is a locally prominent hiking summit popular with day-trippers from the Lugano area.
Marked mountain trails lead to the summit and ridges, offering panoramic views over Lake Lugano and the surrounding Prealps and across the Swiss-Italian border. Hikes are typically completed as day routes from nearby villages and make for straightforward summer and shoulder-season outings.
The slopes have long been used for local grazing and seasonal mountain paths rather than for permanent settlements or major buildings. Recreational hiking and informal mountain tourism expanded in the 20th century with improved trail maintenance.
The mountain sits immediately north of Lugano in southern Ticino, close to the Swiss-Italian border and within easy driving distance of the city. The landscape around it is a mix of forested slopes and open ridgelines with views down to the lake.
- Access: Summit trails are well waymarked and typically reached on foot; the final section is a steep hike rather than technical climbing.
- Best viewpoints: Clear weather gives wide views over Lake Lugano and into nearby Italian Lombardy, making sunrise and late-afternoon light especially good for photography.
