How to Get to Montana, Switzerland
Montana (the Crans-Montana area) is most practically reached via Geneva Airport with a train to Sierre and a short bus or cable-car ride up to the resort. Sion is closer but only has limited scheduled flights. Once in the valley, use the funicular/cable car and PostBus services for the uphill transfer.
Sion Airport (SIR): Sion is the closest airport to Crans-Montana/Montana (seasonal and limited scheduled flights). From Sion the road transfer to Montana/Crans-Montana is roughly 30-45 minutes by taxi or car; taxis and pre-booked transfers are the practical options when flights are available.
Geneva Airport (GVA): Geneva is the main international gateway. From Geneva Airport take a train to Sierre (usually via Genève Cornavin and then regional connections) - the rail journey to Sierre takes around 2-2.5 hours; from Sierre transfer by bus or the Crans-Montana cable car/funicular up to Montana (20-30 minutes). Expect total travel time from Geneva Airport to Montana of about 2.5-3.5 hours depending on connections.
Train: The main railhead for Crans-Montana is Sierre/Siders station (on the Simplon line). From Sierre you take the mountain lift/cable car or a PostBus to reach Montana/Crans-Montana; trains on the main line are frequent from Geneva, Lausanne and Brig.
Bus: PostBus services and local buses run between Sierre and Crans-Montana/Montana (journey ~20-30 minutes). Buses are timed to meet many train arrivals; buy tickets on board or consult local timetables.
How to Get Around Montana, Switzerland #
The village of Montana (part of the Crans-Montana area) is largely walkable within the resort centre and slopes. The nearest major rail hub is Sierre, from which buses, shuttles and taxis connect up the mountain; in-season ski shuttles and local buses help get around the resort area.
