Monastery of the Holy Trinity, Meteora

The Monastery of the Holy Trinity (Agia Triada) is one of the monasteries in the Meteora complex in Thessaly, Greece, perched atop a steep rock pillar and noted for its dramatic position. It is one of the active monastic houses within the Meteora group.

Access to the monastery is via stairways and a short bridge carved into the rock, which leads to terraces and the katholikon. Interior spaces include the main church with painted decoration and a small museum area with icons and monastic objects, and the site provides wide views across the surrounding plains and other Meteora formations.

The monastic community at Holy Trinity dates to the later medieval period when monks established foundations on Meteora’s rock pillars; the monastery buildings visible today were constructed and expanded from the 15th century onward as part of the wider Meteora monastic movement. The site has undergone conservation and limited restoration in modern times and remains an active religious house.

The monastery sits on a high rock column within the Meteora rock massif above the town of Kalambaka in the Thessaly region of central Greece, part of the clustered monastic sites that dominate the area.
