Molle Islands National Park
Park Island group park protecting reefs and coastal islands
Off the Whitsunday coast, Molle Islands National Park comprises coral‑lined islands and sheltered bays popular for sailing, snorkeling and campsite stays.
Molle Islands National Park protects a group of islands in the Whitsunday region off the Queensland coast, conserving beaches, woodland and fringing coral reefs. The park includes several of the Molle Islands such as South Molle Island and North Molle Island, and focuses on day-use recreation and habitat protection.
Sandy beaches, snorkelling around fringing reefs, short walking tracks and picnic sites on some islands; visitor facilities are minimal and largely restricted to day use. The islands are popular for boat trips and short island visits from the Whitsunday mainland.
The islands were declared to protect coastal and island ecosystems within the Whitsundays and to provide public access to natural beaches and marine habitat. Management balances low-impact visitor use with habitat conservation.
The park sits within the Whitsunday Islands group off the central Queensland coast, accessed from hubs such as Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour on the mainland.
- Access: Access to the islands is by private boat or authorised ferry services from Airlie Beach and nearby mainland points; there are no daily commercial vehicle links.
What to See #
- South Molle Island: South Molle Island contains walking tracks, beach access and historic resort infrastructure, and is one of the more visited islands in the group.
- North Molle Island: North Molle Island features remnant natural vegetation, rocky shorelines and calm bays used for snorkelling and boating access.
- Mid and smaller Molle Islands: Mid Molle Island and several smaller islets provide additional sheltered beaches and fringing coral reef habitat within the park boundaries.

- Plan visits during the dry season (roughly May-October) when seas are calmer and walking tracks are more reliable; wet-season conditions often make boat transfers and trails less predictable.
- If you intend to camp or stay overnight, check permit requirements with Queensland Parks and book any campground or island access approvals ahead of time - many islands have limited facilities and managed access.
