How to Get to Modra
Modra is a small wine town northeast of Bratislava; most visitors arrive via Bratislava (BTS) or Vienna (VIE) and then continue by regional bus or train plus a short bus/taxi leg. The town itself is best reached from Bratislava's bus or rail hubs (Pezinok/Bratislava).
Bratislava Airport (M. R. Štefánik) (BTS): Bratislava Airport is the closest commercial airport to Modra. From BTS you can take the public bus 61 to Bratislava city (central stops) - journey about 25-30 minutes; taxis to central Bratislava take roughly 20-30 minutes. Typical taxi fares from the airport to central Bratislava are around €20-25.
Vienna International Airport (VIE): Vienna is a common arrival point for Modra. Direct shuttle buses and coach services (e.g., FlixBus / Slovak Lines) run between VIE and Bratislava (about 1 hour); fares commonly range €5-15 depending on carrier and booking time. From Bratislava centre you continue to Modra by local bus or regional train+bus (see card 2).
Train: The nearest major rail hubs are Bratislava hlavná stanica (Bratislava Hlavná) and Pezinok station. Trains from Bratislava to Pezinok take about 15-20 minutes; from Pezinok you can catch a local bus or taxi to Modra (another ~15-20 minutes).
Bus: Direct regional buses connect Bratislava (bus stations such as Mlynské Nivy / Bratislava AS) with Modra; journey times from Bratislava are roughly 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. Local single fares within the Bratislava region to nearby towns are typically a few euros.
