Mnajdra
Archaeological Site Neolithic megalithic temple complex on the southern coast
Mnajdra’s Neolithic temples sit on Malta’s southern coast: limestone structures with solar alignments and carved stones. Tourists visit for prehistoric architecture and coastal cliffs close to the visitor centre.
Mnajdra is a prehistoric megalithic temple complex on the southern coast of Malta near the village of Qrendi and the Ħaġar Qim site. The complex consists of three stone temples aligned on a rocky knoll and is part of the UNESCO-listed Megalithic Temples of Malta.
The site is noted for its coralline limestone construction, concentric stone arrangements and instances of deliberate astronomical alignments. Visitors go to see well-preserved Neolithic stone architecture, carved stone features and the coastal setting.
Archaeological phases place the temples in the Neolithic period, commonly dated between about 3600 and 2500 BCE; the complex was excavated and studied from the 19th and 20th centuries onward and is now managed for conservation and public access. Protective shelters and walkways have been installed to preserve the surviving masonry.
Mnajdra sits on Malta’s southern coastline within the Qrendi locality, a short drive from the main roads linking southern Malta to Valletta and other population centres.

Tips for Visiting Mnajdra #
- Arrive early morning or late afternoon to see the stone surfaces with favorable light and to avoid the midday heat - sunrise is especially striking because Mnajdra's layout has known solar alignments.
- Enter via the Ħaġar Qim visitor centre car park and stick to the raised walkways around the temples to protect the site; the centre has exhibits that explain the archaeology and alignments.
- Buy the combined ticket for Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra and check opening hours in advance; visiting outside high summer and choosing an early entry helps you avoid the largest crowds.
