Miñiques

Miñiques is a volcanic massif in Chile’s Antofagasta Region on the high Andean Altiplano, located near the paired high-altitude lakes Laguna Miñiques and Laguna Miscanti. The area is noted for stark volcanic scenery and saline lagoons.

Visitors encounter cratered volcanic landforms, high-altitude lagoons and sparse puna vegetation, with strong light and clear views across the Altiplano. The lakes are important for Andean birdlife and provide photographic contrasts between volcanic cones and bright water surfaces.

The landscape is volcanic in origin and part of the broader Altiplano-Puna volcanic province; local geomorphology reflects past eruptions and subsequent lake formation in closed basins.

Situated on the Andean plateau of northern Chile, the site lies within the Antofagasta administrative region and is commonly reached by road from the San Pedro de Atacama tourism hub.
