Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) is a glacially carved fiord within Fiordland National Park on New Zealand’s South Island, famed for its steep rock faces, frequent waterfalls and dramatic scenery.
The fiord is about 15 kilometres long and is dominated visually by features such as Mitre Peak and a number of high waterfalls that drop directly into the water; boat cruises and sea kayaking are the primary visitor activities and provide close-up views of cliffs and wildlife.
Formed by glacial action, Milford Sound has long been a focus for nature tourism and scientific interest. Visitor infrastructure at the head of the fiord includes cruise terminals and short walking tracks to nearby viewpoints.
Located on the west coast of the South Island within Fiordland National Park, Milford Sound is accessed by State Highway 94 from inland towns such as Te Anau; the route passes remote mountain scenery before reaching the fiord.

- Mitre Peak: Mitre Peak rises directly from the water and is a landmark silhouette at the head of Milford Sound, often visible from cruise routes and the shoreline.
- Notable waterfalls: Bowen Falls and Stirling Falls are two prominent waterfalls that drop into the fiord and are commonly pointed out on cruise routes.
- Cruise terminals and access: The Milford Sound cruise terminals and visitor infrastructure provide access for sightseeing boats, kayaking and short shore walks along the fiord's edge.
