Midea is a Late Bronze Age Mycenaean archaeological site in the Argolid region of Greece, known for a fortified citadel and associated tombs. The site is part of the cluster of Mycenaean centers in Argolis.
Prominent features include the fortified acropolis with massive stone walls and the remains of palace-scale buildings, plus a cemetery of chamber tombs located on the slopes below the citadel. Archaeological interest centers on Bronze Age architecture, defensive works and burial assemblages.
Excavations at Midea were carried out in the 20th century by antiquarian and later professional archaeological teams, revealing Mycenaean-period construction and material culture dating to the Late Bronze Age (roughly second millennium BCE). The site has been compared with contemporary centers such as Mycenae and Tiryns.
Midea sits inland in the Peloponnese within Argolis, a short drive from Argos and Nafplio, on a hill that overlooks the surrounding plain and is accessible from regional roads.
