How to Get to Mezdra#
Mezdra is a rail junction on Bulgaria’s Sofia-Varna line and is best reached by train from Sofia. The town’s railway station provides regular BDZ services and good onward bus connections for local travel.
Sofia Airport (SOF): Sofia is the principal international airport for travellers heading to Vratsa Province. From Sofia you can take a train or coach to Mezdra (about 1.5-2 hours by rail) and then local connections to other towns; expect total travel times to Mezdra in the 1.5-3 hour range depending on service.
Varna / Burgas Airports: These are less convenient for Vratsa Province; Sofia is the most practical international gateway for Mezdra and the Northwest region.
Train: Mezdra is a major railway junction on Bulgaria’s Sofia-Varna mainline (Mezdra railway station). Regular BDZ services connect Mezdra with Sofia (about 1-1.5 hours) and with northern and eastern Bulgaria; regional trains and some intercity services stop here.
