Mesa de los Tres Reyes
Mountain Prominent Pyrenean peak marking historic tripoint of kingdoms
At the tri-point of Navarre, Aragon and France, Mesa de los Tres Reyes is a limestone massif and pilgrimage peak; hikers cross ridgelines for high-mountain views and seasonal shepherd routes.
Mesa de los Tres Reyes is a mountain in the western Pyrenees, located on the border region of Aragon. It is known locally as a prominent summit that historically marked regional boundaries.
The summit is frequented by hikers and mountaineers for ridge walks and panoramic views across the Pyrenees; routes involve steep, rocky terrain and require basic alpine route-finding skills. Trailheads are accessed from nearby valleys and mountain passes.
The peak has been referenced historically as a landmark on the frontier between neighbouring regions and served as a natural boundary; local mountaineering activity has shaped access and paths over time.
Geographically it sits in the western Pyrenean range within Aragon, near the border with other Pyrenean regions, with access from mountain valleys and small highland towns in the vicinity.
- Hiking conditions: Steep approaches and rocky terrain make the summit a short but demanding hike in good weather; snow can persist at higher elevations into late spring.
How to Get to Mesa de los Tres Reyes #
The usual access is from the Spanish side via the A-177 and local roads into the Ansó valley (Navarre). From Ansó village, follow mountain roads toward the Linza refuge and park there; from the refuge a marked trail climbs to the mesa (a full day’s hike). Public transport is limited; the nearest rail is at Canfranc Estación, then buses or taxis into the valleys.
Tips for Visiting Mesa de los Tres Reyes #
- Start very early (before sunrise) to catch the first light on all three summits - weather in the Pyrenees can change fast.
- Approach from the Spanish side via the Azpegi/Ansó valleys; park at Linza refuge for the most direct routes.
