Melimoyu National Park

Melimoyu National Park is a protected area in Chile’s Aysén Region that conserves rugged coastal Patagonia including temperate rainforest, fjords, glaciers, and the Melimoyu volcanic massif. The park protects a contiguous stretch of near-coastal landscapes important for marine and terrestrial biodiversity and for preserving glacier-fed river systems.

Key features include steep fjord coastlines, glacier tongues and ice-influenced river valleys that descend toward the sea, and the prominent Melimoyu volcano within the park boundaries. Wildlife and scenic boat routes through fjords are principal attractions for expedition-style visitors and small-boat tours.

The park was created by the Chilean government to protect regional landscapes and biodiversity and to include significant glacial and volcanic features within the national park network. Management emphasizes conserving intact forest, freshwater and coastal ecosystems while allowing low-impact visitation.

Melimoyu National Park is on the northern Patagonian coast in Aysén, in a remote section of Chilean southern Chile characterized by islands, channels and fjords; access is most commonly by boat from coastal towns or by multi-day overland travel through sparsely developed areas.
