Mecklenburgische Schweiz

Mecklenburgische Schweiz is a small hilly landscape region in the German state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern noted for rolling moraines and numerous small lakes. The terrain and water systems were shaped by the last ice age and the area is known locally for low, wooded hills and scattered rural settlements.

The area offers a mix of short trails, country roads and lakeshore paths suited to walking and cycling, with accessible stretches typically a few kilometres long that connect villages and lake viewpoints. Landscape highlights are the moraine ridges and ponded lakes that occur across the region; many routes pass historic manor houses and small village churches.

The landforms were created by glacial action during the Pleistocene and have been used for agriculture and settlement since the medieval period. Over time the region retained a rural character with scattered estates and small market towns rather than urban development.

It sits in northeastern Germany within Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, north of the Mecklenburg Lake District and within reasonable driving distance of the larger towns of the state; the wider region is low-lying with mixed farmland, forests and lakes.
