Marmorpalais
Castle Neoclassical riverside palace once Prussian royal residence
On Potsdam’s Neuer Garten, the Marmorpalais is an 18th-century palace with marble façades and landscaped grounds. Tourists visit for restored interiors, park walks and views across the Heiliger See.
The Marmorpalais is an 18th-century palace on the shore of the Jungfernsee in Potsdam’s Neuer Garten. It was built between 1787 and 1792 as a royal residence and is noted for its marble-clad exterior and riverside terraces.
Interior rooms and state chambers are the main visitor draws, complemented by the palace’s compact footprint and panoramic views over the Jungfernsee. The surrounding Neuer Garten offers walks, sightlines to other park buildings and landscaped approaches to the palace.
The palace was constructed for King Frederick William II of Prussia in the late 18th century and later passed through various uses and restorations; it now functions as a historic house museum within the palace park system. Conservation work in the 20th and 21st centuries has stabilized and restored principal rooms for public access.
The Marmorpalais sits in Potsdam, Brandenburg, on the north shore of the Jungfernsee within the Neuer Garten, approximately 25 to 30 kilometres southwest of central Berlin.
