How to Get to Maripasoula
Maripasoula (French Guiana) is best reached by regional flight from Cayenne (CAY) into Maripasoula Airport (MPY) or by long river journeys. Overland options from coastal Guiana are limited; plan flights or coordinated river transfers in advance.
Maripasoula Airport (MPY): Maripasoula has a small regional airport with flights to and from Cayenne operated by regional carriers. Flights are short (about 30-60 minutes) and are the most practical way to reach the town from the coast; expect one-way fares roughly in the range of €120-€250 depending on season and booking time. Ground access from MPY into Maripasoula village is a short taxi or walk.
Félix Eboué Airport (CAY): Cayenne - Félix Eboué (CAY) is French Guiana’s main international airport. From CAY you can catch a regional flight to Maripasoula (see above) or organise river transfers/charters; taxis between CAY and Cayenne centre take about 20-30 minutes and cost roughly €20-€35.
Train: There is no rail network in French Guiana.
Bus / River Transport: Maripasoula is deep in the interior with very limited road connections to the coast. River travel by pirogue/boat is possible but is slow and irregular - trips upriver can take many hours to days and are typically arranged locally or by charter. Within Maripasoula the town is small; taxis, motos and walking are the usual ways to get around.
