Mallanganee National Park
National Park Protected subtropical rainforest and wetland reserve
Mallanganee National Park in New South Wales preserves pockets of subtropical rainforest and riverine habitat; birdwatchers and walkers follow trails to observe canopy species and remnant forest.
Mallanganee National Park is a protected area in northern New South Wales that conserves pockets of subtropical and dry sclerophyll forest on a dissected upland plateau. The park is noted for remnants of tall open forest and older growth forest stands that provide habitat for native birds and mammals.
The park is largely remote and offers limited formal facilities; its value is primarily conservation of intact forest communities and protection of catchments and biodiversity. Access is by rural roads and fire trails rather than developed visitor infrastructure.
Mallanganee lies in the northern tablelands of New South Wales and forms part of the broader network of reserves that conserve eastern Australia’s forested uplands. The nearest regional centres are in the northern rivers and tablelands districts of the state.
