Malia is a coastal town on the north shore of Crete and an archaeological area famous for its Minoan palace remains. The site and town combine Bronze Age ruins with seasonal beach tourism and hospitality services.

The principal attraction is the Minoan palace complex and associated Bronze Age structures, located a short walk inland from the beaches; the town itself offers long sandy shores and a concentration of hotels, bars and restaurants popular in summer. Beach areas extend for several kilometers along the coast and are a major reason people visit.

The palace complex was constructed and used during the Minoan Bronze Age, with the main palatial phases falling within the second millennium BCE; archaeological work has revealed storage magazines, multi-room buildings and central courtyards. The settlement and palace underwent destruction and rebuilding phases typical of Minoan sites.
