Luna (Etruria)

Luna was an ancient city on the Ligurian coast of northwestern Italy, associated in antiquity with the nearby Carrara marble quarries. It served as an important coastal settlement and port in the classical period.

Surviving traces are primarily archaeological remains and museum collections rather than extensive standing monuments. The site and finds illustrate its role in regional trade and maritime activity.

Originally inhabited in the Etruscan and Roman eras, the city expanded under Roman control and was known in classical sources for its port functions and proximity to marble sources. Over subsequent centuries the site declined due to coastal changes and loss of port function.

The ruins and related museum lie near the modern locality of Luni in the Liguria region, on the northwestern Italian coast between La Spezia and the Carrara area.
