How to Get to Lourdes

Lourdes has its own airport (Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées) and a major railway station (Gare de Lourdes) with TGV and regional services from Paris and nearby cities. During pilgrimage season transport options increase, but outside peak times check schedules in advance.

By Air

Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées Airport (LDE): The closest airport, about 10-20 minutes from Lourdes town centre. Taxis and airport shuttles run between the airport and Lourdes; taxi rides take about 10-20 minutes and typically cost approximately €10-€25.

Toulouse-Blagnac (TLS) / Pau Pyrénées (PUF): Toulouse and Pau are larger airports used by international visitors; drive or coach connections from these airports to Lourdes take about 1.5-2 hours (Toulouse) or 45-60 minutes (Pau) depending on traffic and service.

By Train & Bus

Train: Gare de Lourdes is a major rail station on SNCF’s network - TGV and Intercités services run between Paris and Lourdes (direct TGV from Paris in roughly 4.5 hours when available). Regional TER trains connect to Tarbes, Pau and other nearby towns.

Bus: Regional buses serve the surrounding towns and villages; shuttle buses operate from Tarbes-Lourdes-Pyrénées airport and during pilgrimage seasons there are additional coach services. Local buses and taxi services handle shorter transfers within the area.

How to Get Around Lourdes #

Lourdes is highly walkable, particularly around the Sanctuary, Grotto and main pilgrimage sites; much of the town is designed for foot traffic. Local buses and taxis serve the wider area, and regular trains connect Lourdes with Tarbes, Pau and larger cities. During busy pilgrimage periods shuttle services and pedestrian flows increase, so plan extra time for moving between sites and for queuing at major attractions.

Shopping in Lourdes #

Shopping in Lourdes is dominated by religious goods: shops around the Sanctuary sell rosaries, medals, icons and pilgrimage memorabilia. In addition there are standard tourist outlets, bakeries and local food stalls catering to visitors. If you want non‑religious retail or larger supermarkets, you’ll find them a short walk outside the core sanctuary area.
