Logarska Dolina is a glacial alpine valley in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps in northern Slovenia, within the Municipality of Kamnik. The valley is a protected landscape area known for steep glacial walls, forested slopes and open meadows.
A notable feature is the Rinka Waterfall near the valley head, which drops approximately 90 metres and forms a principal viewpoint and hiking destination. The valley contains established walking routes, mountain huts and trails that lead to neighbouring alpine passes and peaks.
The valley formed under Pleistocene glaciation and today combines forest, pastures and high-alpine terrain; recreation and conservation are the valley’s primary uses. Visitor infrastructure includes a single access road that ends near the valley core and several marked footpaths.
Logarska Dolina lies in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps of northern Slovenia and is approached from the lower Savinja basin and the nearby towns and road network serving the Kamnik region.

What to See #
- Rinka Waterfall: A 90-metre waterfall near the head of the valley that marks the upper end of the glacial trough and is a focal point for day hikers.
How to Get to Logarska Dolina #
By car: Logarska Dolina (the Logar Valley) is accessed from the municipality of Solčava in northern Slovenia. By public transport: reach Celje or Ljubljana by train, then use regional bus services toward Solčava; from the valley parking area most attractions and viewpoints are reached on foot along well-marked paths (walks of about 1 km or more into the valley).
Tips for Visiting Logarska Dolina #
- Arrive early (or later in the afternoon) to avoid day-trip crowds that arrive by coaches; early light also improves views up the glacial amphitheatre.
- Use the official car park/valley entrance and follow the main valley road on foot or by the local shuttle where provided-vehicle access is managed and parking is concentrated at the valley mouth.
- Walk to the head of the valley to see the waterfall and glacial cirque-many visitors stop lower down, so continuing to the upper viewpoints rewards you with dramatically quieter panoramas.
