Lobos Island
Island Small volcanic islet off Fuerteventura, protected natural reserve
Faro de Lobos and short boat rides define Lobos Island near Fuerteventura; day‑trippers hike lava trails, swim in sheltered coves and snorkel reefs within the island’s protected reserve.
Isla de Lobos is a small uninhabited islet off the northeastern tip of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands, Spain. The island covers roughly 4.6 km² and its highest point is Montaña La Caldera at about 127 m.
The island is known for a sheltered crescent bay and rocky volcanic coastline used for walking, birdwatching and snorkeling in clear coastal waters. Short ferry services from Corralejo provide the most common access and crossings typically take about 15 minutes.
The name refers to the historic presence of marine mammals and the islet has long been used by local fishermen. It has remained largely undeveloped and retains a simple historic pattern of paths and small sheltering structures rather than permanent settlement.
Lobos sits a short distance north of the port town of Corralejo on Fuerteventura, separated from the main island by a narrow channel. The islet is visible from the northern Fuerteventura coastline and is a common day-trip destination from the town.
- Access: Ferry crossings from Corralejo are short-around 15 minutes-and landings are subject to tide and schedule; plan return times in advance.
- Summit walk: A marked trail leads to the island's highest point, Montaña La Caldera, which rises to about 127 m and gives the best panoramic views.
