How to Get to Lipik#
Lipik is an inland spa town best reached via Zagreb or regional airports. There is no major airport in town; most visitors arrive by bus or car from Zagreb, Osijek or nearby rail hubs.
Zagreb Franjo Tuđman Airport (ZAG): Zagreb is the main international airport serving inland Slavonia. From Zagreb Airport you can reach Lipik by bus or a combination of train/bus; driving takes about 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic. Airport transfer or taxi to Lipik will be significantly more expensive than buses (expect taxi/transfer fares over €100).
Osijek Airport (OSI): Osijek is closer geographically than Zagreb for eastern Slavonia and offers some scheduled flights. From Osijek you can drive to Lipik in roughly 1-1.5 hours; regional buses also connect Osijek with towns in the Požega-Pakrac area but frequencies are lower than from Zagreb.
Train: The rail network in Slavonia links larger hubs; the nearest major stations to Lipik are in Požega and Pakrac. Trains to those hubs run from Zagreb Glavni kolodvor - check HŽ Infrastruktura timetables and be prepared to use a local bus or taxi for the last short leg to Lipik.
Bus: Coaches are the most direct public option. Buses run from Zagreb and other regional centres to Lipik, Pakrac and Požega; journey times from Zagreb are typically around 2.5-3 hours and fares commonly range from €6-€15 depending on operator and ticket type.
How to Get Around Lipik#
Lipik is best accessed by car or regional bus; trains are useful only to reach nearby hubs and require a final bus or taxi leg. Once in Lipik the town is small and very walkable.
- Car rental (€30-€60/day) - Renting a car is the easiest way to reach and explore Lipik and the surrounding Požega-Pakrac area. Roads are generally quiet and parking in Lipik is straightforward. A car is particularly useful if you plan to visit rural thermal spas or wineries nearby.
- Regional bus (€3-€15) - Buses connect Lipik with Zagreb, Pakrac and Požega; they are the most practical public option for travellers without a car. Timetables can be limited on weekends, so check departures in advance. Tickets are sold at stations or on the bus, with fares typically modest.
- Train + bus (€5-€15) - Trains get you to larger nearby stations (Požega, Pakrac), but you’ll usually need a short bus or taxi ride to Lipik. This combination can be slightly slower than a direct coach but useful if you prefer rail travel for longer legs.
- Taxi / Private transfer (€30-€120) - Taxis and private transfers provide direct door-to-door service from Zagreb or Osijek, convenient if arriving late or with luggage. Prices are higher than public transport; ask for a fixed price before starting the journey. Local taxis handle short trips around town reliably.
- Walking - Lipik is compact and easily explored on foot - spas, parks and the small centre are a short walk from most accommodations. Walking is the best way to enjoy the town atmosphere and local green spaces.
