Les Trois Vallées
Area World's largest connected ski area in the French Alps
Les Trois Vallées links Courchevel, Méribel and Val Thorens into one of the world’s largest ski domains; visitors come for extensive piste networks, lift systems and après-ski.
Les Trois Vallées is a linked ski domain in the French Alps within Savoie that connects a number of resorts across three adjacent valleys to create one of the world’s largest interconnected ski areas. It brings together resorts from family runs to high-altitude glacier-access terrain under a single lift network.
The ski domain provides roughly 600 kilometres of groomed pistes that link well-known resorts including Courchevel, Méribel, Val Thorens and Les Menuires, offering terrain for all levels from gentle nursery slopes to steep off-piste and long cross-valley runs. The network is served by a dense system of lifts and offers extensive ski-in/ski-out accommodation.
The area developed through 20th-century resort construction and later lift-linking to form a continuous winter sports domain; it is busiest in the peak winter season when piste and lift capacity are fully used. Summer use includes mountain biking, hiking and alpine leisure in the higher valleys.
Les Trois Vallées is located in the Tarentaise valley in Savoie, French Alps, with principal road and rail access via towns such as Moûtiers and Albertville and regional airports serving nearby resort gateways.
- Size: Offers roughly 600 kilometres of marked pistes linking multiple resorts and valleys, making it one of the largest interconnected ski areas worldwide.
- Highest resort: Val Thorens is the highest of the main resort villages at about 2,300 metres above sea level, providing extended high-altitude skiing.

Tips for Visiting Les Trois Vallées #
- To avoid the biggest lift queues, ski early (first chair) and midweek-school holidays and weekend afternoons are the busiest across the Three Valleys network.
- Pick a less crowded access point or base (for example smaller villages or La Tania/Brides‑les‑Bains for Courchevel/Méribel links) to start your day and access the main area before large groups arrive.
- Buy multi‑day lift passes online in advance and familiarize yourself with key inter-resort lifts/routes the day before so you can open-map the quickest links and avoid repeatedly queuing at transfer lifts.
Best Time to Visit Les Trois Vallées #
Go in winter for skiing (Dec-Apr) or in summer (Jun-Sep) for hiking; shoulder months are quieter but weather is more variable.
