Leipziger Platz is an eight-sided (octagonal) square in central Berlin, located immediately west of Potsdamer Platz in the Mitte district. It was originally laid out in the late 18th century and is notable for its regular geometric form.
The square was heavily damaged during World War II and remained in or adjacent to the Berlin Wall’s Death Strip during the Cold War. After German reunification, the site was redeveloped and parts of the original octagonal layout were restored as modern office and residential blocks were constructed around the square.
Today the square sits within a high-profile redevelopment area that links historic street patterns with contemporary architecture. It is centrally located in Berlin, within easy walking distance of the Tiergarten and other central landmarks.
Leipziger Platz occupies central ground near Potsdamer Platz and the city’s main cultural and administrative corridors, making it a frequent waypoint for visitors moving through the Mitte district.

Leipziger Platz is in central Berlin adjacent to Potsdamer Platz. The square is a 2-5 minute walk from Potsdamer Platz station (U‑Bahn U2 and S‑Bahn S1/S2/S25), and Leipziger Straße provides direct road access for cars. From Berlin Hauptbahnhof or the Brandenburg Gate it is an easy central tram/U‑bahn or short taxi ride.
