Leibethra is an ancient Macedonian settlement at the foot of the Pierian Mountains in Central Macedonia, Greece, known in classical sources for its association with the poet-figure Orpheus. The site preserves archaeological remains from antiquity and has been the subject of modern excavations.
Excavated areas expose building foundations and funerary remains typical of a small ancient city and necropolis; visitors mainly come to view surface ruins and signage rather than extensive reconstructions. The site is of local archaeological interest rather than a large museum complex.
The settlement was occupied in antiquity and is referenced in classical Greek literature as linked to Orphic cults; over time the inhabited area was abandoned and fell into ruin, with finds recovered by archaeologists in the 20th and 21st centuries. Excavations have revealed funerary structures and pottery that date to classical and Hellenistic periods.
The ruins lie near the modern village of Leivithra in the regional unit of Pieria, at the northern foothills of Mount Olympus. The landscape is the lower slopes of the Pierian range and agricultural land around small villages.
