The Lanxess Arena is a large indoor arena in Cologne, Germany, opened in 1998 and one of the country’s biggest indoor venues. It is used for sport, concerts and large-scale events and was renamed after the chemical company Lanxess in 2008.
The venue hosts concerts, ice hockey, basketball and touring shows with capacity up to about 20,000 depending on configuration. The arena contains multiple seating tiers, corporate boxes and flexible floor space to accommodate sporting surfaces or concert stages.
Built and opened in 1998 as a major multiuse arena for Cologne, it has hosted domestic and international sports fixtures and large touring music acts since opening. Name sponsorship changed the widely used name to Lanxess Arena in 2008.
Situated on the eastern bank of the Rhine in Cologne near the KölnMesse exhibition grounds, the arena sits adjacent to the Köln Messe/Deutz rail and tram hub for direct city and regional connections.
