Lake Tegel

Lake Tegel (Tegeler See) is a lake in the northwestern part of Berlin, Germany, within the Reinickendorf district and part of the city’s lake and river network. It is a significant local recreation area with boating, swimming and parkland.

The lake shore includes the historic Schloss Tegel estate and park, which is linked to the Humboldt family, and several small islands used for leisure. Passenger ferries, private boats and rental services operate on the lake during the warmer months.

Historically the lake has been integrated into Berlin’s urban development while retaining parkland and estate grounds along its shores. It has long been used for recreation by city residents and visitors.

Lake Tegel sits northwest of central Berlin, within the city boundaries, and is easily reached by public transport from the urban core.

• Access points: Good viewpoints and boat access are available from public lakeside parks and marinas on the southern and eastern shores.
• Urban location: Close to the former Berlin-Tegel Airport and northwest of central Berlin, making it an urban recreational lake within the city limits.
