Lake Iseo

Lake Iseo (Lago d’Iseo) is a freshwater lake in Lombardy, northern Italy, situated between the provinces of Bergamo and Brescia. It is smaller than Italy’s largest lakes but notable for its clear water and the inhabited island of Monte Isola at its centre.

Monte Isola, served by regular ferries and known for village streets and lakeside views, plus towns such as Iseo that provide harbors, restaurants and boat services. The lake’s shoreline has walkways, vineyards in the Franciacorta area, and routes for cycling and hiking around the basin.

Historically the lake has been a regional transport and fishing resource; small settlements around the shore have medieval origins and developed over centuries as local commerce and tourism centres.

Lake Iseo lies in the pre-Alpine foothills of Lombardy, between the cities of Bergamo and Brescia, with rolling hills and vineyards surrounding much of the shore.
