The lake is used for recreational boating, bathing and local tourism, and has walking routes and facilities around its shore. Historic buildings and hotels, including a lakeside castle-hotel, sit on or near the shoreline.
Fuschlsee occupies a basin shaped by glacial action during the last ice age and has clear alpine-fed waters. It is integrated into the Salzkammergut lake district both hydrologically and in terms of visitor infrastructure.
