Lake Alleghe

Lake Alleghe is a mountain lake in the Dolomites of the Veneto region in northern Italy, occupying a valley at the foot of nearby Dolomite peaks. It is closely associated with the town of Alleghe on its shore.

A compact lakeside town, walking promenades, boat rentals and viewpoints offer straightforward recreational use. The lake and town serve as base facilities for nearby hiking in summer and ski-related activities in winter.

The lake was created when a large landslide blocked the valley and dammed the river, producing the basin that filled to form the modern lake. The settlement of Alleghe developed on the new shoreline and has been the lake’s principal community since.

Located in the province of Belluno within the Dolomites of northeastern Italy, the lake sits at the foot of steep mountain slopes and is accessed from regional roads serving the Dolomite valleys.
