Lägern is a forested ridge in Aargau west of Zurich, popular for ridge walks and day hikes offering views over the Rhine valley and, on clear days, distant Alpine silhouettes.
Lägern is a wooded limestone ridge in the Swiss Jura foothills in canton Aargau, north of the Limmat valley. It forms a distinct high ground separating local valleys and is a popular local outdoor area.
The ridge is a natural geological feature of the Jura system and has been used historically for transit and grazing; modern use focuses on recreation and conservation of woodland habitats.
Runs across canton Aargau near the border with canton Zurich, north of the Limmat valley and within easy reach of the Zurich metropolitan area.
- Elevation and access: Highest point reaches about 866 metres above sea level and the ridge forms a prominent wooded backdrop north of the Limmat valley, popular with day hikers from the Zurich area.
How to Get to Lägern #
From Zurich: take S-Bahn S6 or regional trains toward Baden and alight at Dielsdorf or Regensberg; trailheads are a short walk from stations. By car follow canton roads toward Dielsdorf/Regensberg and park at designated lots near key trailheads.

- Approach the ridge from Dielsdorf for the calmest trails and fewer people.
- Bring binoculars for better views into the Limmat valley and the Zurich Basin.
