La Ciotat City
Coastal city in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur
A Provençal port east of Marseille, La Ciotat lures boaters to the Calanques, sunbathers to sandy beaches, and cinephiles to the Lumière-era shipyards. Stroll the Vieux Port, eat bouillabaisse, and board ferries to Île Verte.
Why Visit La Ciotat?#
On the Provençal coast, La Ciotat combines a working shipyard and an old port with fragrant pine hills and hidden calanques. Parc du Mugel, the town’s sheltered harbor and the steep coastal coves that inspired early Lumière films give the place a cinematic aura, while Provençal seafood-bouillabaisse, fresh oysters and freshly caught fish-anchors the food scene. Short boat rides and coastal paths connect to larger beaches and the relaxed pace of the South of France.
