A historic city gate in the Venetian walls of Nicosia, Cyprus, traditionally marking the northern approach toward Kyrenia and forming part of the city’s fortified ring.
The gate is an architectural element of the 16th-century Venetian fortifications and is commonly photographed as part of Nicosia’s walled city. Its preserved stone passage and surrounding ramparts illustrate the military layout of the Venetian walls.
Constructed during the period when the Venetian Republic rebuilt Nicosia’s defenses in the 16th century, the gate and walls were later adapted under Ottoman administration and have been the subject of preservation work.
Located on the northern side of Nicosia’s walled city in the municipal area of Nicosia, serving historically as the north-facing gateway toward Kyrenia on the northern coast of Cyprus.
