Kyffhäuser Monument

A large imperial monument and historic hill site on the Kyffhäuser ridge in central Germany that combines a late 19th-century memorial with medieval castle ruins.

The late 19th-century monument includes sculptural groups and an observation tower of roughly 81 meters that provides panoramic views across the Kyffhäuser hills and surrounding landscape. Below the monument are the visible remains of the medieval Kyffhausen Castle, which visitors can explore on foot.

Erected in the late 1800s as a memorial commemorating Imperial Germany and Emperor William I, the site also preserves the ruins of a medieval castle associated with earlier regional history and the legend of Emperor Frederick Barbarossa.

Sits on the Kyffhäuser ridge in Saxony-Anhalt, near the towns of Bad Frankenhausen and Kyffhäuserland, in a mixed agricultural and forested hill landscape.
