Kunst im Tunnel
Museum Contemporary art space located in an underground tunnel
Beneath Düsseldorf’s Rheinkniebrücke, Kunst im Tunnel (KIT) presents contemporary art exhibitions and projects in an underground gallery adjacent to the Museum Kunstpalast; visitors see rotating shows and experimental installations.
Kunst im Tunnel (KiT) is an underground contemporary art exhibition space in Düsseldorf, Germany, established as a satellite venue of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen in 2007. It occupies a distinctive subterranean space beneath the Rheinufertunnel close to the Rhine promenade.
The venue hosts rotating temporary exhibitions of contemporary and experimental art, with programs that emphasize installation, video and site-specific projects. Exhibition runs change regularly so repeat visits often present different artists and formats.
Opened in 2007 by the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen, KiT was created to expand the museum’s capacity for temporary and experimental projects beyond the main K20 collection. It has since operated as a platform for shorter-term shows and younger curatorial initiatives.
KiT sits beside the Rhine riverfront in central Düsseldorf, directly adjacent to the Rheinturm and within walking distance of the K20 museum building and MedienHafen district.
- Location tip: Located beneath the Rheinufertunnel next to the Rheinturm and adjacent to the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen K20 building, making combined visits convenient.
