Krzyżtopór

Krzyżtopór is the ruin of a grand early 17th-century castle-palace in Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, Poland, built by the noble Ossoliński family. It was conceived as an ambitious Baroque residence with fortifications and an unusual symbolic programme.

The complex became famous in its time for its scale and alleged symbolic counts of architectural features tied to calendar units-stories refer to many rooms and towers representing days and weeks. The site was heavily damaged during mid-17th-century fighting and later fell into ruin, leaving the substantial masonry remains visible today.

Construction was undertaken in the early 1600s under Krzysztof Ossoliński, with the main building phase concluding in the mid-17th century; subsequent warfare and neglect reduced it to its current ruined state. The castle stands near the village of Ujazd and is accessible by regional roads as a heritage ruin visited for its architecture and dramatic remains.
