Kremenec
Mountain Tri-border mountain marking Slovakia–Poland–Ukraine boundary
A forested summit on the Slovakia-Poland-Ukraine border, marked by a border obelisk; Kremenec attracts walkers and cross-border hikers for its trails and ridge views.
Kremenec is a mountain in the Prešov Region of eastern Slovakia that forms part of the border massif between Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine. The summit is notable as a geographical tripoint where the three countries meet.
Hikers visit the mountain for its cross-border summit and the triangular marker that denotes the tripoint; the surrounding terrain is typical of the Eastern Carpathians with forested slopes and mountain ridges. Trails from each side provide access for day hikes and border-crossing excursions where permitted.
The summit and its border marker have long been used as a fixed geographic reference point; the precise tripoint has been maintained through modern boundary agreements and local markers. Over time the area has remained primarily natural and recreational in use rather than developed.
The mountain sits on the eastern edge of Slovakia in the Prešov Region at the junction with Poland and Ukraine, within the Carpathian mountain chain.
- Elevation and borders: The summit reaches approximately 1,221 metres and marks the meeting point of three national borders.
What to See #
- Tripoint marker: A marked tripoint on the mountain summit where the borders of Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine meet; the summit area is a destination for cross-border hikers.
Tips for Visiting Kremenec #
- Visit on a clear morning for the best long-distance views - Kremenec is the tri‑border summit where Slovakia, Poland and Ukraine meet, and visibility makes the tripoint especially rewarding.
- Stay strictly on marked hiking trails and do not attempt to cross the border markers: the summit sits on an international frontier and crossing into Poland or Ukraine outside official checkpoints can cause legal problems.
- Approach from the Slovak side via established hiking routes and allow extra time after wet weather - paths can become boggy and navigation is easier when you stick to the marked trails.
Best Time to Visit Kremenec #
Best visited late spring through early autumn for clear trails, pleasant weather and the easiest access to the summit and border marker.
