Kremasta is a large artificial reservoir in western Greece formed by damming the Acheloos River. It is the largest man-made lake in the country and plays a major role in regional water management.
The reservoir offers wide open water and wooded shorelines used for recreational boating, fishing and roadside viewpoints. The dam and associated infrastructure are visible features and are often the focus of short visits and photo stops.
The lake was created in the 20th century when the Acheloos was impounded to produce hydroelectric power and regulate river flows; the resulting reservoir inundated valleys and altered local settlement patterns.
Set within a mountainous valley in Western Greece, the reservoir lies across regional boundaries and is surrounded by steep forested slopes and small villages.
