How to Get to Kranj
Kranj is close to Ljubljana and is most easily reached via Ljubljana (airport or main rail station) followed by a short bus or taxi to Kranj. The town is served mainly by buses rather than direct rail.
Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU): Ljubljana Airport is the main gateway for Kranj; the drive takes about 20-30 minutes. Shuttle buses and airport transfer services run to Ljubljana where you can connect by local bus to Kranj; direct private transfers to Kranj typically cost €15-30.
Trieste (TRS): Trieste is an alternative for arrivals from Italy; road transfers to Kranj take longer (around 1.5-2 hours) and prices for shuttles or private transfers vary.
Train: Kranj does not have a mainline passenger railway station on the Ljubljana-Jesenice line - the closest major rail hub is Ljubljana (Ljubljana glavna postaja). From Ljubljana, regular buses run to Kranj in about 20-30 minutes.
Bus: Buses are the primary public transport for Kranj. Frequent services run from Ljubljana and other nearby towns; tickets are inexpensive and buses stop near the town centre.
