Králický Sněžník
Mountain Border mountain massif with alpine terrain and springs
Králický Sněžník forms a border massif between Poland and the Czech Republic, with rounded peaks, spring-fed streams and cross-border hiking routes. Ski slopes operate on its flanks in winter.
Kre1lickfd Sne9nik is a mountain massif on the Czech-Polish border, the highest peak of the Snieznik Mountains with an elevation of about 1,424 metres. It is a notable local watershed and a regional high point in the Eastern Sudetes.
Alpine meadows, montane forests and marked hiking trails lead to the summit area, which offers wide views across both countries. Walks across the plateau typically take several hours round trip and are used for hiking and cross-country skiing in winter.
The massif is a natural feature of the Sudetes rather than a built site. It has long stood as a border landmark and has been traversed by local shepherds and hikers for centuries; modern trail markers and mountain huts were added in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The mountain sits on the Czech-Polish frontier between the towns of Králíky (Czech Republic) and Międzylesie (Poland), within a landscape of rounded peaks and forested slopes. Regional roads connect to trailheads on both sides of the border.
- Access: Trails approach the summit from both the Czech side (town of Králíky) and the Polish side (Międzylesie), making day hikes from either town feasible.
Tips for Visiting Králický Sněžník #
- Aim for early morning on clear days for the best long-distance views from the summit-cloud and fog build quickly in this massif, so start hikes before mid-morning when possible.
- Approach from the established trailheads on either the Polish side (Międzygórze area) or the Czech side (Králický or Dolní Morava approaches); parking and marked trails are available at both and choosing one determines a shorter ascent/return route.
- Don't miss the spring of the Morava River on the massif's slopes-follow local trail signs or ask at the trailhead for the short detour, which most day-trippers skip.
- Check local mountain weather and current trail conditions before setting out; sudden changes and snowfields can persist outside high summer, and route choices should reflect recent conditions.
Best Time to Visit Králický Sněžník #
For hiking and best views go late spring to early autumn (June-September); winter is for snow sports but much colder and snow-covered.
